From: Lincoln KS Wilborn (Bill) N. Day, 87, died at home in rural Lincoln, Kansas on April 1, 2013. He was born August 5, 1925, in Kingman, KS, to Mr. and Mrs. E. I. Day. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps February 11, 1943, while attending Kanorado High School. Bill entered the service upon graduation and was Honorably Discharged December 15, 1945. After his discharge he attended Kansas State University and graduated May 1949, receiving a BS degree in Agricultural Economics. The day after graduation he married Mary Jane Meili. They started their new life together in Garden City, KS, where Bill worked for the Soil Conservation Service. In 1950 they returned to central Kansas where Bill began his farming and ranching operation in the Westfall Community. Bill's farming career started as a young child when he was responsible for taking water to the steam engines with a two horse team. When he retired in 2009 he was driving a 200 horsepower tractor. Bill was a progressive farmer and stayed in touch with advances in agricultural and animal sciences. He is survived by his wife Mary Jane, sons Billy of Lincoln, KS and Mike (wife, Cindy K.) of Wichita, KS, daughters Cindy J. of Overland Park, KS and Nancy (husband, Greg) Rasmussen of Middletown, OH, grandchildren, Erin (husband, Michael) Rohr of Boston, MA and Neal Rasmussen of Manhattan, KS and his faithful, protective dog JC. Bill was active in Masonic Lodge, recently receiving his 65 year pin. He was a lifetime member of the Order of the Mystic Shrine, ISIS Temple and was an ISIS Shrine clown. Bill was also a member of the Knights Templar, York Rite, Scottish Rite, The Red Cross of the Constantine and member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Bill was active in his community and served on the Westfall and USD 298 School Boards, Soil Conservation Board, American Legion and a was member of the United Methodist Church. He served on numerous boards and committees throughout his lifetime. Bill served on the Board of Directors for the Kansas Livestock Association, was a member of the Kansas State Alumni Association and Ellsworth County Catbackers. He loved attending KSU Wildcat football games and especially the bowl games! Visitation will be held Thursday, April 4, 2013 at Hall Funeral Home, 111 E. Elm Lincoln, KS 67455 from 5 to 7 PM. A public graveside service will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, April 5, 2013 at the Prairie Mound Cemetery (AKA Yordy Cemetery). Exit I-70 at Exit 233, go south 1/2 mile, turn East and go another 1 mile. Luncheon following at the Westfall Community Center. Contributions may be sent, in care of the Hall Funeral Home, to the ISIS Shrine Travel Fund to support the transport of children to Shriner's Crippled Children's and Burn Hospitals or the Westfall Fire Department which rendered aid to Bill in the final moments of his life.
