Verlin Chitty Obituary

Verlin Wayne "Gil" Chitty 82, passed away on December 27, 2022, at Lincoln Park Manor in Lincoln, KS.  He was born on August 16, 1940, in Concordia, KS to George Verlin and Susan Lorraine (Morton) Chitty.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Gil grew up in Jamestown, KS and attended Jamestown Elementary and High School, graduating in 1959.  The first class to graduate in the new high school. As a young man still in high school, Gil enjoyed wheat harvest and going on his many custom harvest excursions with his Uncle Pete Loftus. Following graduation, he continued his work as a farm equipment mechanic/repairman. He worked for a short time for Case IH in Salina before marrying the love of his life and settling down in Lincoln, KS where he went to work for Treaster Implement and then Carrico Implement with a 47-year career as a John Deere Farm Technician.

Just shy of celebrating 60 glorious years, Gil married Kathleen Ann Tate on a very cold January 12, 1963. To this union were born 3 children, Robert Verlin, Sharon Ann and Ronald Wayne. Gil enjoyed working with his hands and his greatest talent included teaching his kids and grandkids woodworking and repairing lawn mowers and other mechanical issues they would have. Gil loved Christmas and used his woodworking talents to make his children multiple creations to put up during Christmas, our favorite being his Santa and Mrs. Claus with lanterns. Gil would spend many days putting all of his lights up around his house and yard. His favorite display was his Model A tractor that he refurbished from top to bottom and then strung with lights for many years. Gil and Kathy won the local Christmas decorating contest with his many lights and displays. His greatest accomplishment in life were his children with his pure heart and gentle soul, he taught them how to love unconditionally and to overlook faults.

He is survived by Kathleen, his children, Robert (Gina), Beloit, Sharon (Alan) Luck, Lincoln, and Ronald (Trina), Gypsum. Grandchildren, Dylan (Nikki) Chitty, Dalton Chitty, Austin (Kayla) Luck, Braden Luck (fiancé Whitney Cole), Maggie (Coleman) Westhoff and Molly Chitty.  Great Grandchildren Wyatt and Rowynn Chitty, Rylee and Layton Luck, and brother, Micheal (Patricia), Boise, Idaho, and many family and friends including his best friend, Muff.  He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Susan and his sister Carol Torres.
