Shirley Buchanan of Lincoln, KS died October 20, 2012, in Lincoln KS. She was born December 25, 1946, in Cleveland, OH. Shirley was 65. Shirley married John Buchanan in Alvin, TX, and since 1990 they have made their home in Lincoln. Her parents were Eldon and Alice (Hart) Flegge, who have preceeded her in death, as did her brother Alan. Left to celebrate her life are: husband John Buchanan; sons Jason and Jonathan; daughters Keary Mondrik of Hampton, VA and Kanda Suiter of Concordia, KS; and 16 grandchildren. She was a joyful addition to the Lincoln community. For the last fourteen years she was Mary Todd (in costume and character) to President Lincoln (husband John) for the Lincoln Days celebration. She was a talented seamstress, making all her and John's costumes. She also was quite a good quilter. Shirley loved to cook and kept her family well nourished indeed! She was a driving force with Marilyn Helmer in creating the "100 Miles" publication. The visitation will be at Hall Chapel, Lincoln, Tuesday, October 23, 2012, from 1-7:00 PM with the family present from 5-7:00 PM. The Celebration of her life will be Wednesday, October 24, 2012, at 10:00 AM at Lincoln United Methodist Church, Pastor Kaye Metzler officiating. Interment will immediately follow in the Lincoln City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family's trust fund. ยป View what others have shared.
