SALINA
Samuel “Sammy” Patrick Good, 40, was born on February 15,1985, and his soul left this earth entirely too soon for those who adored him to be able to handle on September 9, 2025. He was the precious son of Jim and Yolanda, and the youngest brother to Julie, Cindy, Matt and Renee. He was an honored stepbrother to Derek, Mandi, Daniel and Cody for over 30 years. He leaves behind his beloved pit bull, Blue, and his treasured love and best friend, Chantelle Meyer.
Sammy was an amazing human being with so many talents and attributes, it’s hard to keep up. He was a very talented artist, and an equally talented musician. His shyness kept him from being as bold as he deserved to be because everything that he did was gold and generally just magic. He just didn’t understand how magical he was, which made him all the more easy to adore in the purest possible ways.
Sam had a magnetic personality, even though his humble soul would never claim it. He could make anyone laugh, and anyone simply feel joyful and heard. He was always quick to make sure that you received the compliment that he intended. If you were having a bad day? Just go to Sammy…because he would light it up and quickly make everything better. Sammy had a knack for listening to people and making them feel validated and heard. He simply had a presence that could help heal your missing places.
It is beyond difficult to speak about this young man in past tense. He is present. Sammy is always present and to suggest otherwise seems negligent.
Sam had the most beautiful and infectious smile. Most who describe him will almost always begin with describing that stunning grin, as they travel through the nature of his unique and precious qualities.
His family treasured him like nobody else. Every single, one of us always wanted him to do better, to be better and to reach harder and higher. But mostly, we just wanted him to realize his worth and his value because he was so much better than he ever allowed the world to understand. Sammy’s humility was a priceless trait that all who loved him wished he would sometimes let loose so that he could expand into places that would allow him to truly explode into boldness.
In Sam’s free time, he enjoyed chilling with his treasured 12 year-old pit bull son, Blue, playing music on his guitar that his love Chantelle gave him for Christmas, attending concerts, and spending precious time with his family, who will always treasure him beyond words.
His “scribbles” on random pieces of paper were utterly art. He could turn nothing into something every day of his life. He could turn a sheet of paper into the most beautiful flower you’ve ever seen. He had a unique sense of humor that could keep you laughing for days in almost any capacity.
Sammy was and is one of the most beautiful human beings this world has ever known. His literal goodness was a trait quite extraordinary to him specifically, as he had a distinctly kind heart for anyone he was near.
Sam’s love was always music. Whether he was playing it or listening to it, he treasured the gift of music more than almost anything. He loved going to concerts, singing songs, and he loved playing songs. Music was in the man’s blood. He respected music and it respected him back.
Sammy was preceded in death by his grandparents, Oran D and Elizabeth LaRue Good and Joyce and Dale Rathbun; his beloved grandmother Maria Rose Godinez and grandfather Jim “Bimbo” Barrientez. He was greatly saddened to lose his humble and dear father, “Papa” James Good.
Sam is survived by his adoring parents, Yolanda and Ronald Rathbun; as well as his siblings, Julie (Stein) Hunter, Cindy (Greg) Meek-Becker, Matt Adams, Renee (Paul) Gebhardt, Derek (Laura) Rathbun, Mandi (Shannon) Gustafson, Daniel (Shelby) Rathbun, Cody (Sherrie) Rathbun, and special “siblings” Madison Adams and David Hardesty. Sam was the uncle to his treasured nieces and nephews, Caden (Morgan) Baughman, Zachary Becker, Joshua Becker, Karlie Hunter, Aubrey Hunter, Greyson Hardesty, Elijah Rathbun, Finnegan, Adrian, Weston, Marley Madsen, Aniston, Quinn Hollis, Breece, Levvie, Nillie, Vannie, Jaxsen, Tyson, Keelynd and Harrison. Sammy was the great uncle to his sweet nephews, Judah and Luca, and to his niece Magnolia.
Samuel certainly leaves behind countless friends who are so much more like family, with hearts left eternally broken. The spaces he filled so very specifically and specially can never be replaced.
Sammy was a fantastic dog dad to Blue, a love to Chantelle, a son, brother, brother in law, and uncle.
We will never be the same but are each better because we got to call him ours for 40 years.
