Ruth Harvey Obituary

From: Beverly KS
Ruth Genevieve Lehman Harvey, age 88, died peacefully on September 19, 2016, at Baylor Scott and White Hospital, and was immediately ushered into the presence of her Lord, whom she had loved for 81 years. Ruth was born February 12, 1928, in Berne, IN, the daughter of Tillman and Edna (Spiehiger) Lehman. Ruth, the second oldest of 10 children, spent her growing up years in Berne before attending college at Bob Jones University, where she met her husband of 54 years, James David Harvey. Together they served the Lord in the pastorate and in missions for over 40 years, ministering in Georgia, Colorado, Brazil, Indiana, Nebraska, Wyoming, and Iowa. From early childhood, through her adult years, Ruth loved to read (and if you didn't want her to read it, don't leave it lying on the counter); she also loved to sew, and in recent years, spent many hours scrapbooking. Ruth "looked well to the ways of her household, and did not eat the bread of idleness". On any given day, after Bible reading and prayer, she selflessly launched into the task of rolling newspapers for her sons, to help them save time on their paper routes. She did mountains of laundry, and provided sit-down meals for her family every night, and twice on Sunday. In her free time, she sewed her childrens clothes, did countless household chores, helped with homework, gardened, shoveled snow (in her dress), and taught Sunday School, all without complaining. It is no surprise that her children "arise up and call her blessed". Ruth is survived by her eight children: Steve (Cathy), Dave, Yvonne (Russ), Jon (Charlene), Noel (Sandy), Anita (Kim), Brenda (Mark), Teresa (Randy); 20 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandson. Ruth is preceded in death by parents and husband, two granddaughters, two grandsons, three sisters and two brothers. Visitation: Noon-3:00 P.M. Monday, September 26, 2016, at Beverly Community Church, Beverly, KS Funeral: 3:00 P.M. Monday, September 26, 2016, at Beverly Community Church, with interment following in Lincoln City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Beverly Community Church. ยป View what others have shared.
