Obituary

LINCOLN

Robert “Bob” Batchman passed away peacefully on August 17, 2023 at the age of 78 in Overland Park, KS. His battle with dementia in recent years showed his courage in facing life’s challenges with trust in his loving wife and family.

As a young man, Bob loved to tinker with cars. From rebuilding cars like a ‘55 Chevy to a ‘62 409, his passion for making something old to new again was evident. Bob also loved the speedway. He spent his extra time building a winning top fuel dragster which further showed his genius and love for mechanics.

In 1962, he met the love of his life, Charlene Brinkman. After a long pursuit, he won her heart and they were married June 19, 1964. While serving his country in the National Guard from 1964-1970, Bob worked as a serviceman for National Cash Registry (NCR). With his wife by his side, Bob moved throughout Colorado and Texas for his job, settling long enough in Garden City, KS to welcome their first two children Robert Lee and Ryan Wayne. Bob and Charlene then welcomed their daughter Dena Denise shortly before arriving in Lincoln, KS where Bob would remain until his death.

While in Lincoln, Bob developed several businesses selling auto parts, cars, ATVs, and jet skis. However, his passion was always with the mechanics of auto parts. He is most known by his customers as the voice on the other end of the phone saying, “Lincoln Auto, Bob speaking,” with Bob being drawn out.

Bob was preceded in death by his father Norman Jacob Batchman. He is survived by loving wife Charlene Batchman of Lincoln; his mother Edna Kathleen Fox of St. John, KS; three children, Robert Batchman of Springfield, MO, Ryan Batchman of Herrington, KS, and Dena Powers (James) of San Angelo, TX; and grandchildren, Courtney, Logan, Beau, Brody, Jadyn, Josiah, and Jenesis.

A memorial celebration will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Lincoln Area Humane Society or the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, c/o, Hall Chapel, PO Box 37, Lincoln, KS 67455.
