SYLVAN GROVE
Peggy S. Meyer, 81, was born May 15, 1944 on the family farm northeast of Hunter, KS to Walter and Irene (Von Fange) Deiter. She departed this life on July 5, 2025 at Lincoln Park Manor. She graduated from Hunter High School in 1962 and Salina School of Cosmetology that same year. Peggy married Michael “Mick” Meyer at their family home in Sylvan Grove, KS on December 20, 1975. They welcomed a baby boy, Toby, on February 5, 1976. Together they ran the local sale barn for years. After raising Toby and selling the sale barn, she helped Toby and Heather at the sale barn. Peggy was known as the hat lady to many. She loved going around doing “fashion shows” with her friends and her sister, Dixie. Peggy loved having her grandchildren over to play dress up, having ramen noodles and pop on the front porch, having sleepovers telling stories about her childhood, watching Patsy and Eddie even if it was highly inappropriate for their age, and making mud pies, using real ingredients. She enjoyed crocheting, growing her crazy hat and wardrobe collection, having many chickens, cleaning houses, and helping take care of her four grandchildren. Later in life, Peggy followed her grandchildren watching them play sports and showing livestock. She would often meet up with her very close friend group, known as the shady ladies. She loved unloading cattle on Sundays with Mick, taking him a coffee and snack, helping him to the best of her ability. And not to forget going on her walks every day to try and find bigfoot.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Gene, Tom, and Gary “Gus” Deiter. She is survived by her husband Mick; son Toby Meyer (Heather); granddaughters, Cheyenne Meyer (Adam Giger) and Tyra Meyer; grandsons, Kilby Meyer (Tara) and Kolton Meyer; great granddaughter Illa Giger; great grandsons, Wyatt, Branch, and McCoy Giger; sister Dixie Sloggett; niece Haley Richards (Quinton); great nephews, Cade and Jayce Richards; and many other close family and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 9, 2025 at the Sylvan Grove Sale Barn.
Memorials may be made to the Bullfoot Creek/Sylvan Hustler 4-H Club or to the Sylvan Grove Historical Society, c/o, Hall Chapel, PO Box 37, Lincoln, KS 67455.
