Norman Ervin Troeger, 93, passed away Sunday, July 29, 2012, in Salina, KS. He was born October 26, 1918, in rural Lincoln County, near Beverly, KS, to Edward and Minnie (Meier) Troeger. He was a retired rural mail carrier. During WWII Norman was assigned to Company A, 803 Tank Destroyer Battalion and fought in northwest Europe. He was awarded the Purple Heart for combat wounds, five bronze stars on his European-African-Middle East campaign ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, and the sharpshooter's badge for his proficiency with the rifle. Left to celebrate his life are: sons Dennis (Sally) of Staunton, IL and Lannie (Sally) of Marquette, KS; daughter Marla (David) Abell of Barnard, KS; 8 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by: his parents; wife Viola Ruth (Gier) Troeger; brothers Clarence and Alvin Troeger; sister Irene Eckelman. Visitation will be 1-7:00 P.M. Thursday, August 2, 2012, at Hall Chapel in Lincoln, with family receiving friends 5-7:00 P.M. Services will be 9:00 A.M. Friday, August 3, 2012, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, with interment following in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Church. ยป View what others have shared.
