From: Lincoln KS Mary Jane Day, 88, of rural Lincoln, Kansas, passed away on February 23, 2014, in Salina, Kansas. She was born on August 6, 1925, to John Rudolph & Nancy Esther (Miller) Meili in Beverly, KS. Mary Jane grew up in Beverly and graduated from Beverly Rural High School in 1944. She attended Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina for one year and then attended and graduated from Kansas State University in May 1948 with a BS in Home Economics. Her first teaching job was back at BRHS. On May 30, 1949, she married Wilborn Neal (Bill) Day and they started their life together in Garden City, KS, where she taught Home Economics at Garden City High School. In 1951 she and Bill returned to central Kansas where they began their farming and ranching operation in the Westfall community. Mary Jane taught at BRHS until 1958 and then at Lincoln High School from 1958 to 1987. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Bill, and is survived by sons Billy Day of Lincoln and Mike Day (wife Cindy K) of Wichita, daughters Cindy Day of Overland Park and Nancy Rasmussen (husband Greg) of Wichita, grandchildren Erin Rohr (husband Michael) of Boston, MA and Neal Rasmussen (wife Sydney) of Minneapolis, MN, brother Jack Meili (wife Lavon) of Beverly, sister Barbara Smith of Salina and her faithful, protective dog JC. Mary Jane served her community by actively participating in the Beverly Rural High School Alumni Association, Kappa Kappa Ioda, 4-H, American Legion Auxiliary, Lincoln County Hospital Auxiliary and the Lincoln County Historical Society. She was a 50 year member of EHU, active in Eastern Star for over 60 years, Past Bethel Guardian for Job's Daughters, Bethel #69, a member of Daughters of the Nile, Isis Shrine Ladies and the Social Order of Beauceant. She was also a member of the United Methodist Church, the Kansas State Alumni Association, Ellsworth County Catbackers and proud of being a female Kansas Farm Bureau Century Farmer. Mary Jane's family was her first priority and she was indeed an outstanding wife, mother and grandmother. Her other passions included teaching, clothing design, sewing, oil painting, charcoal drawing and caring for a large variety of animals that either intentionally, or unintentionally, showed up on the farm. Visitation - 1:00-7:00 P.M. Friday, February 28, 2014, at Hall Chapel. Family will receive friends 5:00-7:00 P.M. Services - 10:00 A.M. Saturday, March 1, 2014, at Hall Chapel. Interment will follow at 11:15 A.M. at Prairie Mound Cemetery in Ellsworth County.
