He was born to David and Ellen (Hazelton) Kingan, October 12, 1937, in Lincoln at a home that once stood at 121 E. Lost Street. He took great pleasure telling people he never got very far from home since he lived across the street until failing health required him to enter Lincoln Park Manor in April 2013. At the age of 15, he went to work for Dick Atwood at Atwood Tire Service. Dick assigned most of his employees nicknames and Leon became known as "Bosco", which stayed with him through the years. In 1963, Leon and Ernie Liggett became partners and bought the station. When Ernie retired in 1977, Leon became the sole owner. With lots of help from his son, Bret, he worked at the station for 57 years and retired in 2009. Leon enjoyed being very active in community affairs. He was a member of Central Christian Church, serving as an Elder and Chairman of the board. He also served as a charter member of Lincoln Jaycees, long-time member of the Lincoln County Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, Post Rock Amateur Radio Club, Lincoln Golf Club, and Lincoln Gun Club. He served on the Lincoln City Council and Chamber of Commerce. He enjoyed square dancing, hunting, playing baseball, softball and later spent years umpiring for youth baseball.
