Leo Dowlin Obituary

From: Barnard KS
Leo Dowlin, 69, of Barnard, passed away February 24, 2010. He was born March 4, 1940, in Beloit to Charlie "Bud" and Viola Dowlin. Leo is survived by his wife, Janet, of the home; son, Marin and wife, Brandy, of Manhattan, KS; daughter, Amber, of the home; sister, Lenora Howe and husband, Bob, of Barnard. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be 1:00-7:00 PM, Thursday, February 26, with the family receiving friends from 5:00-7:00 PM. The funeral will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, February 27, at St. John Lutheran Church, Lincoln, KS, with Pastor Matt Schneider officiating. Interment will be at Milo Cemetery in Barnard. Memorials may be made to the Barnard Lions Club. If you ever asked Leo what his favorite color was, he would probably have said red, but he would also have said it was definitely not green, especially not the dull olive drab of his first state issued Dodge panel truck, or the early uniforms he wore as a fisheries biologist. Nature's green was wonderful on those Third Creek school field trips, fishing with his Dad or friends, hunting with his former aides who are now like family, or working with the flowers and plants in the greenhouse or garden. So in the Dowlin house there were no green clothes, furniture, or accessories. Thank goodness Marin and Amber never attended any school with green as the school color! Being a fisheries biologist was more than just Leo's vocation because the whole family became involved, especially in kids' fishing clinics, where his fried fish recipe became legendary and drew hundreds of children and their families to fishing through the years. Even after his retirement, he continued to fry fish for the local community to raise money for the Lions Club. Leo devoted his later life to helping the Barnard community in whatever way he was able. » View what others have shared. »
