Helen Keeler Obituary

From: Barnard KS
Helen E. Keeler, formerly of Barnard, died Friday, November 11, 2016, at the Salina Regional Health Center. Helen Elizabeth Reed was born January 19, 1919, in Culver, Kansas, in the family home her father built. Her parents were Bert C. Reed and Bertha Daughtery. She was united in marriage to Keith Milo Keeler on July 4, 1942, in Minneapolis, Kansas. She was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Barnard. During her lifetime she lived in Culver, Minneapolis, Barnard, and Salina, all in Kansas. Helen graduated from Culver High School in 1937. She lived in Minneapolis three years and in Barnard 61 years before moving to McCall Manor in Salina, July 20, 2001, and later to Eaglecrest Retirement Home September 5, 2014. Helen's family was the center of her life and her greatest pleasures were being a nurturing wife and mother. Many of Helen's most enjoyable moments were spent in the company of her daughters and, in later years, her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all who provided her with much joy and happiness. She and Keith were married nearly 49 years before his death. Members of both of their families and all their Barnard friends were special to them. After she moved to Salina, she enjoyed living at McCall Manor and Eaglecrest Retirement Home. She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, in 1991; brother, Harold Reed; and five sisters, Gertrude Reed, Florence Reed, Alice Pearce, Laura Reed, and Mary Giddings. Left to hold memories in their hearts include: daughters, Judy Ann (Clifton) Prater and Janet Sue (Harold PeeWee) Maring, all of Salina; five grandchildren, Tamra Prater (Layne) Hauserman, Jeffrey Prater, Michael (Michelle) Prater, Bryan (Terri) Maring, and Greg (Jenny) Maring; eleven great-grandchildren, Shayna Hauserman, Kelsey Hauserman, Morgan Hauserman, Madison Maring, Kassidy Maring, Dawson Maring, Makenzie Maring, Sienna Prater, Avery Prater, Collin Dillman, and Emma Dillman. When a mother dies the whole world collapses because she's the anchor that you don't have any more. She really is the center of the universe, someone you can turn to, someone you can trust. Her family was embraced by a circle of love and she left within each of us some priceless part of her soul that will remain with us forever. We will forever cherish our memory of her in our hearts. Visitation will be at the church before the funeral services at the First United Methodist Church, Barnard, Kansas, on Wednesday, November 16 at 11a.m., with interment following in Milo Cemetery, Barnard, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Barnard or the American Heart Association. ยป View what others have shared.
