Hal D. Byarlay, 86, of Lincoln, KS, passed away Saturday, April 14, 2012. Hal was born January 17, 1926, to Alfred V. And Lillie L. (Detmer) Byarlay of Clay Center, KS. After serving in the Army Air Force as an aerial gunner on a B-17 bomber crew, he returned home to finish high school, graduating in 1947 from Randolph Rural High School. He then acquired a B.S. degree in Animal Science from KSU in 1951. During his career he was the Agriculture County Agent for Lincoln County, a field man for the K-State Farm Management Assoc. and lending officer and senior vice president at the Farmer's National Bank in Lincoln until his retirement in 1995. On May 6, 1954, he married Mary T. Bohm of Tipton, KS. Hal and Mary started their life together in Lincoln, KS, and made it their lifetime home, where they raised their five children and became active members of the community. Hal enjoyed serving his community as: chairman of the Lincoln County Planning Board; director of Lincoln County Economic Development; member of the 12th District Judiciary Nominating committee; and a 20-year member of the Lincoln City Council. After retiring, he found it rewarding to help deliver Meals on Wheels to local residents. Hal was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Lincoln. He was also a charter member of the St. Patrick's Knights of Columbus Council 10074. Hal was preceded in death by: his wife, Mary; his parents; sister Verna Beebe; brother Lowell. Survivors include: sons Dan (Deb) of Salina; Bob (Diane) of Olathe; daughters Deb Webb (Bruce) of Osborne; Becky McQueen (Truette) of Barnard ; Angela Davied of Lincoln; brothers Phil of Randolph, KS and Starr of Versailles, KY; sister Jan Harshman of Fruita, CO. He was a loving "Papa" to his 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Visitation - 1-7:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 17th at Hall Chapel in Lincoln, with family present from 5-7:00 P.M. Vigil service and rosary will follow at 7:30 at St. Patrick's Church. Funeral services - 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, April 18th at St. Patrick's Church in Lincoln, with interment in St. Patrick's Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Patrick's Catholic Church. ยป View what others have shared.
