SYLVAN GROVE

  Gregory “Greg” Kent Burger, 72, Sylvan Grove, Kansas, passed away peacefully on

Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at home.

  He was born on October 26, 1949, in Larned, Kansas, to Merle and Lois “Blase” Burger. He attended Shiloh country school through the sixth grade, then attended Lucas Elementary and graduated from Lucas High School in 1967. He played football, basketball, and was on the track team. The highlight was being on the 4x100 medley relay team that took 1st Place at State his junior year and playing K-18 Baseball in the summers. He attended Salina Area Vo-Tech, graduating with a Diesel Technology Certification.

  After graduating, he married Shelley Humes, and to this union a son, Gregory Chad, and a daughter, Marcie Beth, were born. He worked for Sellers Tractor Company for 11 years as a heavy machinery mechanic and was divorced before returning to Lincoln County to farm with his parents in 1980. He took up residence on his great-grandparent family homestead. On August 29, 1983, he married Wilma Horinek at the Justice of the Peace, Salina, Kansas, with his parents and son as witnesses. To this union, a son, Jerome Wade was born. He enjoyed hunting, especially when he bagged a deer, with a little fishing thrown in and playing hoops with his sons.

  He was preceded in death by his father, Merle Dee, brother-in-law Roger Kvasnicka, nephews Clint Francis and Kurt Bretz and niece Kari Bretz.

  Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Wilma Burger of home, only 13 days short of their 39th wedding anniversary; sons Chad (Terri Nuzum) Burger, Kensington, KS; Jerome (Mandy) Burger, Sylvan Grove, KS; daughter, Marcie Burger, Atwood, KS; mother, Lois Burger, Ellsworth, KS; nine grandchildren, Jordan (Micki) Herman, Prairie Village, KS; Austin (fiance, Brittany Hackerott) Herman, Kensington, KS; Kirsten (Tyler) Burger-Kaus, Hoxie, KS; Jonathan Burger, Kensington, KS; Nichelle Armbruster, North Platte, NE; Marlana, Madalyn and Mallory Dobrinski and Stella Rose Burger, Sylvan Grove, KS; two great-grandchildren, Ryker Powell, North Platte, NE and Greyson Herman, Kensington, KS; sisters, Cheryl (Gordon) Bretz and Barb Kvasnicka, Lucas, KS; nephew, Kyle (Jennifer) Bretz, Dover, NH; niece Erin (Seth) Streit, Lucas, KS; and numerous other relatives.

  A celebration of life will take place at a later date to receive family and friends. Inurnment will also take place at a later date.

  Memorial donations may be made to Solomon Valley Hospice or Post Rock Community Foundation.
