Ernest G. Liggett was born March 11, 1912, at Kanopolis, KS. He was the son of Ernest R. and Mollie (Deves) Liggett. At an early age he was baptized by Rev. J.S. Stover, then pastor of the First Christian Church in Lincoln, in the Saline River, west of Bakers Bridge. He graduated from Lincoln High School in the class of 1930. In March 1942, he was drafted into military service. He was assigned to the Army Air Forces, and spent 35 months in the European Theater with the rank of M-Sgt. He was honorably discharged in November 1945. On March 9, 1945, Ernie married Doris Woodyard. This union was blessed with two sons and one daughter - Delbert, Galen and Leann. He went to work for Dick Atwood at Atwood Tire Service in 1957. On January 1, 1963, he and Leon Kingan formed a partnership and bought the business. On January 1, 1977, he retired and sold his share to Leon Kingan. Ernie was a member of Lincoln Community Church, the American Legion, a 66 year member of Masonic Lodge #154 and order of Eastern Star #48. He passed away January 20, 2012. He is survived by: his wife Doris of Lincoln; sons Delbert E. Liggett (Connie) and Galen L. Liggett (Carole) both of Lincoln, KS; daughter Leann K. Bishop of Lincoln, KS; brothers Clarence (Whitey) Liggett of Gosford City, Australia, Earl (Arleta) Liggett of Salina, KS, and Harry (Shirley) Liggett of Edmond, OK; sister Gladys Burke of Elyria, OH; 7 grandchildren; 2 great granddaughters and 2 great grandsons. Preceding him in death are brother Arthur Liggett and sister Thelma Livingston. Visitation will be 1-7:00 P.M. Friday, January 27 at Hall Chapel, with the family present 5-7:00 P.M. Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 28 at Hall Chapel. Interment will follow at Lincoln City Cemetery.
