Duane Huehl Obituary

From: Lincoln KS
Duane Huehl, 83, of Lincoln, KS, died Thursday, July 25, 2013. He was born April 7, 1930, to Emil Fredrick and Anna Louise Panzer Huehl in rural Lincoln County. Left to celebrate his life include: his wife, Joann (Flatt) Huehl, of the home; sons Gerald (Connie) Huehl of Lincoln, KS, Bill (Kathryn) Huehl of Lincoln, KS, Daniel Huehl of Salina, KS and Terry Huehl of Lincoln, KS; sister-in-law, Paula Huehl of Lincoln, KS; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by: his parents; brother Marvin Huehl; sisters Helen Jensen and Madonna Wilson; grandchild, Terrence. Duane worked for Clarkson Construction Company as a heavy equipment operator building roads. He then went to work for Ameno Brothers building roads and dams, using a variety of heavy equipment

Duane furthered his career by going to work for Lincoln County for fourteen years as the county road supervisor, and, on occasion, acting as the engineer on various projects. During this time Duane also enjoyed life as a hobby farmer. First Heidi Construction and then Van Pack Construction and Martin-Audi all came calling, looking for one of the best finish operators in the four-state area. The projects were all state bid let and state inspected. The story goes that during one of these inspections, "A crew man bet he could lay a quarter on the ground and Duane would level the road bed and not disturb the quarter." Another crew member said, "No bet. I seen him do it and he left change for the quarter!" His proudness as a finish operator was legendary among his peers.

Duane had an absolute love of music. In what little leisure time he had he played in two dance bands. Practicing twice a week and playing most every Saturday evening gave him some of his greatest pleasures. The music from the "Melody Masters" and the "Harmony 4" still lives within the hearts of several people attending this service. Duane also enjoyed hunting and fishing but his love of music was #1. Duane will live on in the minds of all and will be remembered as a "straight shooter" and truthful to a fault. We will miss you "Pops". For those of you who knew him, you know he'll be missed. For those of you who didnt know him, you don't know what you missed. - God Bless. Visitation: 1-7:00 P.M., Monday, July 29th, Hall Chapel in Lincoln, KS, with family receiving friends 5-7:00 P.M.
