Donald Dale Wirth

October 20, 1932 ~ November 4, 2020 (age 88)

Obituary

Donald Dale Wirth was born on October 20, 1932 to Arthur and Mabel (Jaeger) Wirth in the early years of the dirty 30’s. He joined one brother, Robert, in their rural Lincoln county home and spent many hours in his crib under a tent of wet sheets to protect him from the blowing Kansas dirt.

His early years were spent helping on their family farm, going to school at Union 4 (a one room country school), and attending church with his parents at Bethany. As a teenager, Don came to trust Christ as his savior. If he were here, he would tell you that this was the most important decision of his life. He graduated from Hunter High in 1950 and briefly attended LeTourneau College in Longview, TX. He then served in the U.S. Army one year as a Chaplain’s assistant in Washington state, followed by several years in the Army reserves.

On August 17, 1957 he married Roberta Ann Herman at Bethany Church. God blessed them with 63 years together; four daughters, Dalene, Tricia, Colleen, and Brenda; and one son, Russell, who died as an infant. He cherished his daughters and was equally thankful for the sons-in-law that joined the family over the years. He counted his 17 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren each as a blessing from the Lord.

Most of Don’s years were spent doing dirt work, raising sheep and cattle, and farming in partnership with his brother, Robert, and eventually his son-in-law, Richard. Though farming provided his livelihood, he gave high priority to serving the Lord in various capacities over the years at Bethany. Don enjoyed a good cup of coffee (actually any cup of coffee was fine with him) and talking with people. Whether visiting with friends or perfect strangers, he was always quick to turn the conversation to things of the Lord.

On Wednesday morning, November 4, 2020, at age 88, Don stepped into eternity...no need for his cane and enjoying perfect hearing; but, we are confident his greatest joy is being in the presence of his Lord.

Donald is survived by his wife, Roberta of the home; daughters, Dalene Plank (Brian) of Wichita, Tricia Brock (Richard) of rural Lincoln County, Colleen Biggs (Bill) of Lincoln, and Brenda Laird (Clayton) of Wichita; grandchildren, Joel Plank, Justin Brock, Arminda Haumesser, Taylor Lebien, Zachary Brock, Jordan Plank, Austin Biggs, Joseph Brock, Shiloh Brock, Benjamin Brock, Drew Biggs, Chloe Laird, Aubrey Laird, Alexis Biggs, Nathaniel Brock, Isaac Laird, and Phoebe Laird; and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Russell Wirth; and brother, Robert Wirth.
