From: Lincoln KS Donald D. Meili, 82, of Lincoln, Kansas, died on December 22, 2013, at the Salina Regional Health Center, of COPD. Mr. Meili was born on Friday, the 13th of November, 1931, to Henry T. and Ruth M. (Usher) Meili. He was born at Aunt Martha Mosss house in Lincoln. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1949, attended Kansas State University and enlisted in the U.S. Navy on January 10, 1951. He served on the USS Valley Forge aircraft carrier in the Korean War and was honorably discharged in San Diego, CA, on November 23, 1954. He married Joan Gile on Mothers Day, May 9, 1954, in the EUB Church, Concordia, KS. Don and Joan moved to the family farm that was owned by his family since 1882. He farmed for 50 years before retiring to town. Don served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Farmway Coop in the 1970s. He was Past Master of Lincoln Lodge #154 and Past Patron of Lincoln Chapter OES #48. He was a member of the United Methodist Church. Don was preceded in death by: his parents; sister, Shirley Sanders; and brother-in-law, W. R. Sanders. He is survived by: his son, Royce (Debbie) Meili, Clearwater, KS; daughters Linda (Joe) Parreco of Rockville, MD, and Mona (Ken) Slack of Austin, TX. He is also survived by grandchildren Hannah Anderson, Shari Unruh, Adam Slack, step grandsons Matthew and Marc Parreco, 4 great-grandchildren, and 2 step-grandchildren, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Visitation - 1-7:00 P.M. Friday, December 27, 2013, with family receiving friends 5-7:00 P.M. Funeral service - 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 28, 2013, at Lincoln United Methodist Church, Lincoln, KS, with burial at the Lincoln Cemetery. Military and Masonic honors will be rendered at the cemetery.
