David Abell Obituary

BARNARD

  David Ramon Abell was born on December 5, 1953, to Bob and Mary Jo (Shaffer) Abell in Grand Island, NE. He grew up in Barnard and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1972 and Fort Hays State College in 1976. David spent over 40 years in the cement industry working first for Quartzite Stone Company and then for Ash Grove Cement Company. He also farmed and ranched in the Barnard, KS area. David married Marla Troeger in 1974, and together they raised three sons in Barnard. David died on February 7, 2026, of pulmonary fibrosis at the age of 72.

  Left to celebrate his life are his father Bob Abell of Barnard; wife Marla of Barnard; sons, Justin (Anne) of Minneapolis, KS, Jeremy (Jenny) of Barnard, and Ryan (Kim) of Union, NE; seven grandchildren, Joel, Jaylee, Reece, Lane, Kamdyn, Kelson, and Mila Abell; and siblings, Monte (Jacque) of Phillipsburg, KS, Leesa Frederking (Ron) of Sylvan Grove, KS, Mark (Roberta) of Minneapolis, and Brett of Barnard. He was preceded in death by his mother Mary Jo and twin brother Robert.

  Visitation will be from 1-7 p.m., Friday, February 13, 2026, at Hall Chapel of Lincoln with family present to greet visitors from 5-7 p.m. A private family burial will take place before the funeral. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 14, 2026, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2282 E. Fox Dr., Westfall, KS.

  In lieu of plants and flowers, memorials contributions can made to St. Paul Lutheran Church or to the Morrison House of Salina, KS, c/o, Hall Chapel, PO Box 37, Lincoln, KS 67455.
