Carol Frances (Clark) Modrow

LINCOLN

  Carol Frances Modrow, 83, passed away Thursday, July 3, 2026, at Lincoln Park Manor, Lincoln, KS. She was born July 21, 1942, in Barnard, KS, to Elmo V. and Frances (Parsons) Clark. She married Lee E. Modrow on September 7, 1962, in Barnard and they made their home at 109 E. School Street in Lincoln.

  Carol and Lee welcomed Lee’s nephew Bob Gleeson into their home for his junior and senior years of high school and counted him as their son.

  Carol was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Barnard. She attended Barnard Grade and Barnard High Schools, graduating in 1960. She attended secretarial school in Wichita, returning to Lincoln where she was employed at the Lincoln County Court House and Briscoe Floral. In 1973, she was hired for a dual role with Farm Bureau Insurance and the Lincoln County Fram Bureau Association. She retired from the Association in 2008 and from Insurance in 2016.

  The Modrows were involved in the Lincoln Jr. Miss program where Lee took pictures of rehearsals and competitions and Carol assisted, sometimes serving as emcee. She was active in Lincoln’s Business and Professional Women’s Club, Take Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) and helped with the Lincoln County Emergency Fund. She sang and played the piano and organ (including her pump organ), singing or playing for many funerals and at Memorial Day cemetery services. She enjoyed sewing and mending for anyone who needed help. She LOVED making cookies for events. She and Lee went on several bus tours, taking Carol’s cookies for everyone on the bus. She visited many people at Lincoln Park Manor (previously Mid-America Nursing Home) and played piano for the residents. She and Lee kept a meticulous yard and also cleaned “the bank corner” for years.  They had the biggest hearts for helping others and took great pride in their community.

  Carol is survived by her sisters Kathleen Williams of Topeka and Barbara (John) Karlin of Salina and her honorary son Bob (Terri) Gleeson of Sealy, TX. Her nieces and nephews include Amy (Bill) Harris of Augusta, MI, Bonnie Williams of Topeka, Meredith (John) May of Colorado Springs, and Christopher (Megan) Karlin of Lenexa. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Lee.

  The memorial service for Carol will be Wednesday, July 15, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Barnard, KS. Feel free to honor her by wearing anything with butterflies or the color purple or purple butterflies!
