Ayako “Betty” Jensen, 93, passed away Thursday, November 16, 2023 in Lincoln, KS. She was born December 4, 1929 in Nagoya, Japan to Kumajiro (Tachi) Takada and Shizu Takada. She had five siblings, Mitsuji, Masao, Fumio, Kazue, and Teruko. While working as a telephone operator in Nagoya, Betty met her husband John Jensen. They were married there on February 16, 1951. In 1951, they returned to Lincoln, John’s hometown. Betty spent the rest of her life in Lincoln cleaning the motel and homes in the community for a while. She was later offered a job as a grocery store clerk at the local IGA. Later in life, she helped her son, Jerry, at Jensen Oil service station.
Betty is survived by her son David Jensen of Lincoln; daughters, Rose Gourley of Lincoln and Susan Turpin (Randal Loder) of Scott City, KS; grandchildren, Troy Gourley (Kara), Toni Jensen (Merle Tippy), Scott Jensen, Tami Zimmerman (Matt), Sara Kuhl (Stephen), Todd Jensen (Kendra), and Brett Jensen (Sandra); and 13 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband John; and son Jerry Jensen.
The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, November 20, 2023 at Hall Chapel funeral home in Lincoln.
A memorial service will take place at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at Hall Chapel with Pastor Kaye Metzler officiating.
